The Internet is a really, really big place. And it’s amazing how much stuff is out there.
So … I tend to collect lots of stuff and put it on my blogroll. Sometimes, I forget exactly what it is and where I picked it up and so on and so forth, etc.
Well, one day my gaze was wandering along my blogroll as lonely as a cloud on little cat feet …
… or something. And it came to rest upon this blog called Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar.
So, I was like, “Hmm … I remember this. Where the bloody hell dickens did I pick this one up?” Then, I started reading it. And I was outright appalled. Not at the blogger, mind you. I was totally on his side. Something he said really made me feel kind of bad for my own country. I wanted to say, “Just so you know, I’m with you, brother!” I have this thing about our image as a country. Maybe it’s a weird form of “white guilt.” I don’t know. I don’t particularly care. All I know is, I don’t believe in telling other people how to live. Anymore, than we would want others to tell us what to do, am I right? Just saying. And it’s just my .02.
So … right away, this blog got my attention. And I began reading regularly.
Then, I saw this post about the death of John Barry. And that led me to post this here.
This led to a whole lot of Twitter and blog correspondence between the blogger, Paul Downie, and myself. This post from another blog pretty much sums it up.
I’d explain the whole thing in more detail, but I’m afraid I’m way too gimpy retarded moronic lazy busy a blogger to do that. Sorry about that.
To put it in a nutshell, I ended up donating a bunch of my novels to a library in the UK, with Paul’s help.
Then, he checked my book out (of the library — duh!), read it and reviewed it. And he liked it. Yay!
However, that’s not all. This blog is more than just about marketing books or finding a reader. When I saw these pictures, I felt like I was actually in Brentwood.

That's the Brentwood Library, and I believe that may be Councillor (at the time) Karen Chilvers standing behind the girl in pink.

Here's another Brentwood Library shot. And that is definitely Karen Chilvers next to the bespectacled fellow.
Now, when you feel like you’re actually in another place when reading someone’s blog, that’s a unique experience. I’ve almost come to feel like Brentwood, Essex County, England is my online home away from home. Even to the point that when I learned that Councillor Karen Chilvers had failed to get re-elected, I went ballistic was so fracking angry at the damn Tories was quite upset was so bummed, I sent my regrets to her by tweet and said that if I lived in Brentwood, England, I would have voted for her. And I meant it, based on what I’ve read on Paul’s blog. *sigh*
Anyhoo, this all led to my doing the nightly trivia quizzes (or teasers) that Paul posts on his blog. I try to answer the questions every night, because you never know what new thing you’ll learn.
Such as that, along with Doctor Who, Paul and I now share a love of the works of Terry Pratchett. I recently read and reviewed his book SMALL GODS. Obviously, I liked it. A lot.
You also never know what cool new video Paul will embed. Because he’s embedded some really awesome ones. Totally eclectic to say the least.
Classic rock tunes …
Retro techno-pop awesomeness …
Clips of awesome overlooked movies …
Awesome in the way only those of the UK can do it …
Hilarious spoof …!
Rock n’ roll!!!
Blimey …!
Acoustic guitar (and classical music, at that) …
And, finally, art for art’s sake …
There’s also a video on the blog of Paul Himself and his nephew, Jude. And you can hear Paul’s throaty chuckle in the background. But I was too gimpy retarded lazy stupid short-sighted to think about bookmarking it. I know. Boo hoo … And I’m too much of the same to go searching for it now. Sorry about that.
But not too much of all that to post this photo!
PS: This is one of my favorite songs. I’ve thought about using it during the closing credits of a movie I want to write someday about the random nature of life.

Oh, bless you, Debbi!
I’ll be menting it to Karen, of course: she’ll appreciate, I think … !
It was my pleasure, Paul!
I’ve been meaning to write this one for a while. Glad I held off, but your videos are all so great, it was getting harder and harder to choose examples.
BTW, I’m Facebook friends with Trevor now.
Hi Debbi, what a lovely blog – thank you for your kind words. I did get your tweet, but I can’t remember if I replied. My head was a bit of a mess after losing my seat and all that hard work. Anyway, onwards and upwards! Paul’s been a real support to me and I try the quizzes too but they are just too darn hard!
Anyway, keep an eye on my blog too – we may have lost the battle on the library but we have won another one on a roads matter!
Karen x
p.s. look me up on Facebook!
Hi Karen,
You did reply. I remember it distinctly. I felt so bad for you. I know what it’s like to put a lot of work into something and end up suffering disappointment. I organized a fundraiser — a motorcycle ride to raise money for a rare movement disorder called dystonia — and that took a whole lot of planning and preparation. It ended up being really awesome, but due to bad weather and a conflict between my event and another one, the turnout was really low. However, we ended up raising more than $1,200. Not too awful, considering it was the first (and, as it turned out, the only) year we did this. Oh, well.

I’ll definitely look up your blog and look you up on Facebook for sure!
Hang in there! And just keep going.
Cheers,
Debbi xo
Actually, in midst of all this, I have one question …
Where on EARTH did I get that Pinky and the Brain episode … ? I mean … YOYO NONO … ?
Hahaha … your guess is as good as mine. Obviously.
I couldn’t be happier that you did find it. Isn’t randomness great?
Thumbs up, likes, +1:s, RT:s and all that to you, Debbi, for being such a brilliant, intelligent, caring, generous and active blogger!
I’m yet to read your books (getting there, I promise!) but I’m sure I’m going to enjoy them even more than I enjoy your blogs! I only wish I’d have the time to comment on all things I’d like to… I’m warning you, one of these days I’m taking the day off work just to write comments on all the blog posts I’ve read…
Thumbs up etc. to Paul, for his blogs, quizzes (they ARE tough, aren’t they??) and true, albeit “internet-only”, friendship…
And to Karen, it is so rare to hear/read about politically active people who actually CARE about their community…
Warm hugs all around!
(I’m feeling very hippie-happie, loving and giving today, can’t you just feel it too??
It’s probably a caffeine overdose…)
Wow, Nina! Thanks so much.
Nothing like a hippie-happie comment like that to get your day off to a good start.
Feel free to visit any and all blog posts and comment away …
And I hope you get a chance to check out my books, one of these days. Thanks!
Actually, Debbi, did we get the chance to mention this post … ?
Thank you, Paul!
I think it was embedded within a link I included here. Even so, it never hurts to point it out again.
Especially, since you’re the original source!
